Return to Rocky Point Beach | Whidbey Island Family Photographer

One of the craziest things about being a Washington photographer is that the light is constantly changing. I mean every night at the same location can look different. You have to be able to adapt, and you get really good at making the most out of grey and overcast skies.

The night of the Tercero family's session was the opposite of a cloudy day. In fact - there wasn't a cloud in the sky. I actually said (out loud!), "It's a little TOO sunny." Boy was I wrong! I'm a sucker for backlight. That ooey gooey golden light peaking out around my subjects is probably my favorite way to shoot. And as I edited this sweet family's gallery, I was so happy that the light oozed into every shot, adding to the natural glow of love and laughter this family brings just by being themselves.

As Starla and I were planning for her family session, I asked if there was any place special to her family. She brought up Rocky Point Beach on Whidbey Island, a spot where her and Robert bring the kiddos to play and just relax as a family. Which is exactly what they did the night of their beach session. Just relaxed, loved on each other and enjoyed being together, in some pretty yummy light.
